As I'm a "Boomer" I grew up with a love of television in the sixties and seventies and miss seeing a lot of that classic stuff. Some of it has been lost to history and worse, lost to the expediency of the economics of the time. So, I'll use this channel to bring what I can of it back for others to enjoy as much as i do. I use Illustrator, Photoshop, Apple's Final Cut and iMovie to do these recreations. I hope you'll enjoy these and the rest to come.

Many actors don't even remember their early roles in soaps. Thats why I always appreciated Allison Janney, who became a mega star, but always appreciated Guiding Light because "they gave her work when she needed it."
My grandma loved this soap opera. Brings back memories
Does anyone know who the Channel 2 announcer was?
Saw Gary Sandy's name as a cast member. He went on to a prime time gig as the station manager of WKRP in Cincinnati a few years later. Did I spell that right? Ha!
Not WKRP. Cincinnati. Ha!
I watched this when I was first married and had my first baby. After that I was too busy.
As a boy I watched this in secret. I thought it was the most racy, worldly thing I had ever seen. My pastor dad and mother would never have approved. Imagine when Iris slept with her sister's husband by accident. Oh my goodness.
The best theme track from Love of Life was from 1967-1973(?). Just my opinion. This theme track was delightfully similar to the theme track from The Secret Storm from around that same time.
the best opening was with CBS announcer Harry Kramer. what I love about this video is the ID. "channel 2 New York" that's the way IDs were and WE LIKED IT LIKE THAT. I am sick of the constant promos telling me how great the station is. NO ONE CARES
Other shows on WBIR*10 CBS Knoxville as well at this time: The Price is Right The Joker's Wild WATERGATE Hearings (Howard Baker was from this area) Now You See It Match Game 74 Gomer Pyle, USMC Summer Semester Captain Kangaroo The Guiding Light As The World Turns The Young and the Restless Jim Clayton Farm and Home The Edge of Night Newscenter 10 News
Part 2 of "Love of Life" has been presented by Anacin!
Long ago, CBS had the slogan "Where The Good Times Are" wish they would bring those times back
Lots of familiar names: Gary Sandy, Frances Sternhagen, Bethel Leslie.
It's a shame the networks didn't foresee the value in preserving these shows. "Wiping" destroyed a lot of TV history.
0:10 In front Gil's Steak and Stein on East 6th Street in NYC, now closed.
That is Cincinnati. My hometown. Did this show take place there?
It took place in a fictional Midwest city called Monticello. Proctor and Gamble was based in Cincinnati, so that skyline was used for many years.
I was about a month old when this show came out in 1967 fall.
Anyone remember Drive detergent (Lever Brothers' entry in the Great Enzyme Detergent Rush of 1969-70)?
Shame that this show went off the air February 8th,1974 after 20 yrs on the air.
The title had 6 syllables, probably the longest in history of daytime tv soaps
This theme song used to scare the hell out of me when I was young and my grandmother watched it.
Stephanie Braxton on the edge of nite
I used to watch this soap back in the day
Same
The closing Credits Marla Adams (later Dina on Y and R) among the actors.
If I recall this was one of the last soaps of the day airing in the late afternoon/early evening.
Seen at 2:30pm followed by The 30 min. Price is Right at 3pm Match Game 74 at 3:30 and Tattletales at 4pm
Thanks for sharing that
"Sponsored in part by Tide".
The title closely rivals a 1966 song, titled the 'Eve of destruction '
I'm experiencing a secret storm
Madeline Sherwood , Frances Sternhagen, Linda Purl, Gary Sandy …. all familiar names if not exactly household names !
Dixie Carter was on The Edge of Night???? My babysitter watched this soap opera😂
This soap was the heart of Dixie. She played Brandy Henderson; Adam Drake's new love interest, after the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Nicole
I remember my mom watching this when I was a little kid, I miss those days so much. Miss you momma... Damn I miss you momma! I miss her so much. She raised me.
Echoed sentiment. That theme song can be used for my story
0:13
At least CBS (or Goodson-Todman) was better about keeping tapes of the program that replaced this one, TATTLETALES.
Sounds of my childhood I always remember that background music my mother was hooked on that soap opera I wish they would bring it back
Yep.
Beautiful time in my life, even though i was 5
The Secret Storm... brought to you by SimplySafe Home Security Systems.
As a kid, I thought this was the raciest thing I had ever seen, especially when the drunk guy thought his sister in law was his wife and got her pregnant.
Before Y&R, Announcer says: This is the CBS MIDDAY NEWS WITH DOUGLAS EDWARDS. The news would last 5 minutes, and there would be a commercial break in the middle. The Price is Right is still an hour long show; you’ll have to wait for your local news instead. Kenneth A Huang 10/28/22.
Great theme song!
Eddie Layton's theme is fantastic!
Who is the announcer
Rest in peace, Chris Reeve.
A wonderful theme song (and logo) for "Love of Life"! Great announcing by Ken Roberts too.
THANK YOU
Best soap opera theme, ever. I used to try and play it on piano. Original, unlike Young and Restless.
Reminds me of sitting with mom and grandma Helen and all three of us drinking percolated coffee when I was little in the 70s, with them smoking cigarettes on the dialed color console TV in her living room, listening to them talk, eating Luden's menthol cough drops until I'd get yelled at by mom not to eat them all and these soaps coming on TV in her spotless pink stucco house in Kansas City Kansas.
Sounds about right.
When I was a toddler I recall this as being my very first view of waves. I was captivated by them.
Same
Yes! I remember that sound and looking at the big scary waves on TV.
My favorite theme track from this program was from 1967-1968 when a bell chimed 4 times followed by The Secret Storm logo flashing 3 times while the rest of the theme track playey 1:
Totally awesome memories.
I was a stoner pothead in the 1970s at the University of Cincinnati. As I was casually watching the little BW TV set in the dorm room, I saw the The Edge of Night intro video sequence of downtown Cincinnati. I’m thinking “whoa, dude, they took away half of the buildings”! I was tricked…that video sequence was from the 1960s, the newer buildings were not built!!
Why do I remember this!??! I had to have watched it in the 90s or something because I was very very young in the late 80’s
Great soap opera!
